See's Candies Valentine's Day Giveaway!

I have the most amazing husband. He cooks for me, takes great care of our son, is handsome, kind and someone I have a great time with. He's sturdy, a man's man. He's reliable, honorable, and practical. What he's not is a romantic. The way he expresses his love for me is by always taking out the trash without having to be asked, fixing things around the house, washing my car, etc.

So imagine my surprise when, while working away in my office last year, my co-workers told me I had a package at the front desk. When I opened the package, inside it was a beautiful box of strawberries covered in a variety of different flavors of chocolate, along with several mini cheesecakes! I was floored, not only because the gift was so fantastic, but because it was something he had pre-planned and was a fabulous surprise. Since I don't expect him to display his love in ways like this, it was totally unexpected. Also, let's face it, women eat stuff like this up. And the fact that my co-workers were green with envy was just the icing on the cake! That sweet gesture made my day, and is something I'll remember for a long time.

  1. On Valentine's Day 16 yrs ago I received flowers (tulips) anonymously. There was a initial on the card. I called the florist thinking that they were for someone else or if not was there a name attached to the giver. They just stated that someone at the company I then worked for sent them. I had been there for over 10 yrs so I knew a number of people.
Three weeks later just as I was about to go on a much needed vacation I found out who they were from and when I returned we went on our first offical date.
On Valentine's Day 4 yrs later I was adkes by this same person to marry him. This past November we celebrated our 11th anniversary.
As an extra special nod to the florist they were the florist I used in our wedding and when I was asked to marry my now husband he had a little thing of tulips with him for me as he asked.

  2. I actually have two love stories to share because both are very dear to me.
When I was a first year senior (I had two senior years) in college there was a very cute transfer student who was in two of my art classes. I was really attracted to him and one day mid semester I decided to take a chance because I thought he was a very good person. I started to leave him anonymous notes in his art locker. They were one or two lines taken from different songs that referred to smiles because I thought he had the greatest smile. I left two a week for about a month. A few of us in the art department decided to go see The Addams Family movie. We had made arrangements and I was supposed to pick this cute guy up and go to the movies. At the last minute everyone in our group canceled so it was just the two of us. Since it was right before winter break I took a chance knowing that if he didn't reciprocate my feelings I'd have two weeks at home to ride out my embarrassment. I made a tape (yes, tape) with all the songs that I took the lines from. After the movie I dropped him back off and when he got out of the car I rolled down the window and told him he forgot something and threw the cassette tape at him and took off. The next time I saw him in class he said "So it was you." And so it began.

Four years later we got married.

The Huz is not very romantic, but he's pretty clever when he tries. I appreciate flowers but can think of better ways to spend money. I am a working artist and use many different materials. One day he came home from work and had one hand behind his back and said "I got something for you." I told him he shouldn't have wasted his money on flowers and he brought his hand forward and had a dozen glue sticks! It was awesome, just perfect.

  3. I don't have a story from a boyfriend or husband, HOWEVER, my mom went out of town one year and since I don't get gifts from anyone...she left me a card and chocolate as a surprise. It was really sweet and totally shocking, so I loved it.

  4. I had the chicken pox along with our 5 month old daughter. My husband brought home a dozen roses on Valentines day and I said all he had to do was the dishes and it would've made my day.

  5. My husband has done some wonderful things, but the best Valentine's gift he ever gave me happened during a walk on the beach. My puppy, Bailey, somehow got confused and started running in the wrong direction, trying to find us. My boyfriend took of after him and chased him for 15 miles(!) until someone finally caught Bailey by the collar.

He then took us both out to a Valentine's dinner at a nearby dog-friendly restaurant. That was where he proposed--to both of us!

  6. thus far, my sweetest love story is not the guy who nearly forced me into my first kiss by threatening to not get me home in time for curfew. or the **significantly** older guy who used me for other things, willing though i was, I was too young to realize what was going on. It was probably the guy who bought me a dozen miniature multi-colored roses on sweetest day because he was sweet and he liked me. The guy who walked me to my door and gave me what I, to this day, consider to be my *true* first kiss with me standing on the cement step and him on the ground and giving me a friend hug and pulling back into that Hollywood Theatrically perfect close-ness and kissing the most perfect kiss ever. Ever. Still gives me butterflies. That is my sweetest love story, for now. I’m signing up for Match this weekend, so hopefully I can top that soon!

  7. My sweet husband proposed by planting letters -sealed with red wax on parchment - at various locations significant to our relationship. It was an all-day event as we went from one location to the next, including playing Scrabble by a riverside, eating at an old-fashioned soda counter at a historical drugstore, browsing an antique store, and finishing with a picnic by a rushing stream. I have the letters as keepsakes, and memories of the grins of shopkeepers and servers as they presented the letters...

  8. Before we were married, one Valentine's Day my husband (then-boyfriend) made me a video card. It was hands down the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for me. The short iMovie features photos of us doing all our favorite things together, and has an interlude in the middle where he videotaped me one day being silly on the beach and writing our initials, D+K, equaling a heart in the sand. We eventually wed and the symbol at our wedding was a D and a K together, and the equation has totally stuck since then.

  9. When I moved in with hubby the oven had been broken for a year. On Valentines day he fixed it for me. Suffice it to say I was disppointed but when I opened the oven, inside was a box of chocolate, flowers and a niecklace. I thought that was sweet and funny.

  10. For our wedding, my husband and I wrote our own vows. Being the writer/English major, you'd think this would have been easy, but it was hard! Mine were so dull compared to my husband's. He actually quoted one of my favorite poems (which I didn't know he knew was a fave) by using the phrase "pilgrim soul". It was from a William Butler Yeats poem, "When you are Old and Gray". I cried throughout the ceremony, because I was so touched by his gesture.

  11. Last year for Valentines, I received a homemade card, some kisses, hugs, and an "I love you" from the sweetest person around. My niece. She's the best.

  12. My then boyfriend, now husband took me to see Beauty and the Beast at the Imax theatre for my B-day. Much to my surprise, up on the screen before the movie started a giant proposal popped up on the screen...and it was for ME!! He had created a slide that he convinced the manager to let him use. I was blown away!
